High School Counselor
I attended public school in Harrison, Arkansas all my life until graduating from Harrison High School in 1979. After graduation, I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics Education from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. I completed my student teaching at Rogers High School. After teaching for about three years, I decided to return to college to pursue a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology.
I am certified in guidance counseling from Kindergarten through 12th grade and Family & Consumer Sciences from 4th-12th grade.
I began my time at De Queen High School with the 2012-2013 school year. I was one of the high school counselors for three years when I decided to retire. I enjoyed two years of retired life when De Queen asked if I would consider returning to the high school. It didn’t take long to decide that I missed the students and the faculty so beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, I returned. I love our faculty and students at De Queen and I couldn’t be more happy with our district administrators. De Queen High School is a wonderful school and I am proud to be a De Queen Leopard!
I began my teaching career in August of 1983 at the Wickes School District. I was the Family and Consumer Sciences teacher for seven years before becoming the district counselor Kindergarten – 12th grade. As the district continued to grow, I eventually became a full-time counselor at Wickes High School. I was a counselor for twenty-two years at Wickes before moving to De Queen High School. During my time at Wickes, I served as district testing coordinator, drug education coordinator and AP coordinator in addition to other duties. I also taught elementary music for two years. It was a great twenty-nine years in the Wickes School System.
I have been married to Don Hennard since 1986. We have one son, three daughters, two sons-in-law and two grandsons; Dustin, Allie (married to Landon Bagby), Kittie (married to Michael Klepacki) and Montie. Dustin and Montie are both graduates of De Queen High School. Allie and Kittie graduated at Wickes High School. They are all grown and living full lives of their own but we enjoy all the time when can get to spend with each of them. Don and I have five dogs, three of which are rescue animals. We are very involved with our church and the Mary and Martha Center.
I enjoy doing domestic things at home. I love cooking, sewing, decorating, yard work and music. My favorite thing though is spending time with family and friends. I’m quite the laugher and love to be around those who make me laugh. I believe everyone needs a good dose of happy laughter in their life and I try to help those who don’t have it to find it. Life is funnier than fiction and we might as well find the funny we all have.
