Jeff Attaway joined the De Queen faculty in the fall of 2010 and served as director of bands until the fall of 2018. His wife, Michelle, served as assistant director, middle school choir director and taught elementary music. Together they lead a growing program of young musicians through participation in The Pride of Sevier County Marching Band, The De Queen HS Wind Ensemble, De Queen HS Pep Band, the 8th Grade Band, Middle School Band and Beginning Bands. Prior to De Queen, Mr. Attaway spent two years in the Norphlet School District in Norphlet, Arkansas.
Mr. Attaway graduated with a BM from Henderson State University where he was an active member of many campus ensembles including the Showband of Arkansas, Wind Ensemble, Brass Band, Brass Choir and the "Second Floor Trumpet Quartet." He has since served as principle trumpet player for the South Arkansas Arts Center Pit Ensemble, the El Dorado First Baptist Church Orchestra and the Secondtime Around Swing Band. He has also performed with various community bands and brass quintets throughout South Arkansas and North Louisiana.
In 2014, Mr. Attaway was named De Queen High School Teacher of the Year and was presented with a Citation from the Arkansas House of Representives for service to education in February of 2015. He currently sings in the De Queen First United Methodist Church choir and is a member of the Arkansas Bandmasters Association, Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association, Four States Bandmasters Association, The International Trumpet Guild and is an alumni of Kappa Kappa Psi.
